Healthy Water, Healthy People Division Formed

BOZEMAN, MT – The headquarters of The Watercourse and Project WET U.S.A. announce a new partnership with the Hach Scientific Foundation of Loveland, Colorado, and the formation of a water quality education division called Healthy Water, Healthy People.

We believe strongly in fostering and supporting science and science education said Kathryn Hach, Chairman of the Hach Scientific Foundation. “Our mission is to make evident the interdependence between science education and the public.”

“There is no topic of greater relevance than water,” said Dennis Nelson, Executive Director of The Watercourse and Project WET (Water Education for Teachers). “Being informed of the quality of your drinking water is important to your health and well-being.”

This three-year program will result in the development, publication, and national distribution of a water quality education program in the year 2002.

Healthy Water, Healthy People materials and training workshops will be available to formal and non-formal educators of students in grades 6 through 12. “We believe there is a definite need for creative, hands-on teaching materials that will give educators more incentive to engage in water quality education,” said Annette Geiselman, the Hach Scientific Foundation’s Program Coordinator.

“What Project WET and The Watercourse are accomplishing through their Healthy Water, Healthy People program fulfills the scope of what the Hach Scientific Foundation is dedicated to accomplish,” said Bruce Hach, ManagingDirector of the Foundation. “Our support for Healthy Water, Healthy People meets our goal of sponsoring a major education initiative that will encourage the youth of America to pursue the exploration of the sciences.”

The Watercourse is an interdisciplinary water science and education program that facilitates and promotes awareness, appreciation, knowledge, and stewardship of water.
